Sylvain George at CzKD in Belgrade

Published: Sept. 2nd 2025

The Center for Cultural Decontamination (CzKD) in Belgrade is hosting a screening and exhibition of films by renowned French director Sylvain George. George is a French documentarian who first came to the spotlight in 2009 with his experimental feature film L’Impossible – Pages arrachées. He tackles in his films the themes of immigration and social movements, documenting the struggles and stories of people whose existence is just a statistic in the regular news cycle.

George’s films – Qu’ils reposent en révolte (Des figures de guerres I), Les Éclats (Ma gueule, ma révolte, mon nom), and others – have been screened at FID Marseille, the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival, and other film festivals. He received the Fipresci critics’ prize in Buenos Aires for Les Éclats in 2011, and the Prix Interreligieux at Visions du Réel for Nuit obscure – «Ain’t I a Child?» in 2025.

Following the screening, there will be a discussion featuring George himself, along with film theorist and historian Pavle Levi. Levi, who is also the event’s organizer, serves on the advisory board of the Kinopravda Institute in Belgrade. The screening and discussion are set for September 5th at 19:00 on the premises of CzKD in Birčaninova Street No. 21.
